|Details||Tenby’s RNLI all weather lifeboat was requested to launch at 8.05pm on Tuesday 4th September, after the Coastguard took several 999 calls reporting white flares in the Pembrey area.
The lifeboat was quickly on the water and made best speed towards the scene, 15 miles east of Tenby, while Burry Port lifeboat crew, who had also spotted and reported the flares whilst on exercise, also made their way.
Once on scene, the volunteer crew joined Burry Port lifeboat in searching off Pembrey.
A short time later, more white flares were spotted coming from inland, which pointed to a possible military exercise in the area. Both crews and the Coastguard were happy that these were the flares that had been reported, so all units stood down and returned to their respective stations, with Tenby lifeboat arriving back on station at about 9.55pm.
